Biographical Note
Saco has
lived in Spain and in Italy,
where he learned to work
directly in wax for bronze
casting. As with Michaelangelo
and Rodin, the human figure in
stone or bronze epitomized for
him the real world of sculpture.
For many years he worked solely
with the figure. Many of these
early pieces can be viewed in
Figurative Gallery.
The
transition from figurative to
abstract was a gradual and
evolving consequence of the
forces of time and life
experience. The human form in
sculpture gave way to a purer
form, one that did not demand
anatomical correctness, but
sought only to be expressive,
unbound, soaring, lyrical in
form, and unweighted in volume.
This period is represented by
the images in Abstract
Gallery.
